Dumsor can have a positive impact on a rare occasions----Nana Addo
The president of the Republic of Ghana Nana Akufo Addo has said on a rare occasion, dumsor can have a positive impact.
Speaking at the National cyber security Awareness on the theme "A Safer Digital Ghana", the President said the government has put in place a number of steps to accelerate the process of formalising the Ghanaian economy.
The government is creating a system where all economic transactions and social activities are fully captured and recorded. Moving the economy from being cash base to one where business transactions are done electronically is an integral part of this development of formalization.
He said while the government is undertaking this project to digitize the economy, they are also mindful of the dark side of digitalization, that is cyber crimes, cyber war and terrorism among others.
" Recently there have been a number of cyber attacks on some of our banks. Attacks which were foiled by the vigilance of the banks and the security services".
The president added that there was a cyber attack on IT infrastructure of Mesk by hackers, which shut down the operations of the company for four days by a malware but fortunately for the company, one of their main controller in Ghana which is located at Tema was not affected at the time because of power outage in the area.
The company was able to retrieve and restore its operations because of the one computer located here in Ghana.
He then said dumsor can have positive consequences on a rare occasion.
As part of government digitalization agenda, they will put in place measures to combat cyber attacks in the country to help make Ghana's digital experience safe and secure.
